Hajj and Umrah Checklist and Packing Guide 2024

In it are clear signs and the standing place of Abraham. Whoever enters it should be safe. Pilgrimage to this House is an obligation by Allah upon whoever is able among the people. And whoever disbelieves, then surely Allah is not in need of any of His creation.

Surah Al Imran (3:97)

Hajj is a Sacred act in Islam and an integral part of a practising Muslim’s life. As we know, there are five primary pillars of Islam, and Hajj is the fifth one. It becomes mandatory for a Muslim to perform Hajj after fulfilling certain conditions. If someone fulfils all conditions, they must perform Hajj immediately. It is a divine act started by the Prophet Ibrahim Alayhis Salaam (Peace Be Upon Him) and is a significant part of Islam.

If you haven’t started your Hajj preparation yet, then you may struggle in the end. It is always better to start the Hajj packing earlier to finish it on time.

One needs to prepare many things apart from material stuff, such as practising performing Hajj and Umrah, learning to wear Ihram, learning supplications, and more. Finish Packing early helps you complete all other work peacefully and without rush.

To help all Hajis and people going to Umrah, we are sharing this Hajj and Umrah Checklist and Packing Guide 2024. You will also read other helpful information about Hajj and Umrah in this post. So, let’s start reading.

In this post, we will discuss many things related to Hajj and Umrah and share the Hajj Packing Guide 2024. So, let’s begin this important post.

Importance Of Hajj In Islam

“Whoever performs Hajj for Allah’s pleasure and does not have sexual relations with his wife, and does not do evil or sins then he will return (after Hajj free from all sins) as if he were born anew.”
Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
(Peace Be Upon Him)

Hajj (Pilgrimage) is one of the fundamental pillars of Islam, and unnecessarily delaying it after becoming obligatory is a sinful act. If Hajj has become obligatory on a person, then he/she should perform it as soon as possible because it is Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala’s debt on that person and He revealed a complete Surah (Surah Hajj) for it. Also, different Quranic verses talk about Pilgrimage and its benefits.

Performing Hajj has so many benefits, proven by authentic Hadith, one such Hadith we mentioned at the start of this section depicts a prime benefit of doing this act. After its ideal completion, the person’s deeds become as pure as a newborn baby. The best part is that all sins, no matter major or minor, are forgiven, and good deeds remain the same, it makes our Amalnama (the record of deeds) even better than a newborn baby.

“Whoever is not prevented from doing Hajj by genuine need, an oppressive ruler or debilitating sickness, and dies without having done Hajj, let him die if he wishes as a Jew or if he wishes as a Christian”.
Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
(Peace Be Upon Him)

We need to understand that when doing Hajj is full of benefits, related to both Deen and Duniya, abdicating it and not performing Hajj after becoming obligatory will result in a big fatal such as death as a disbeliever. When a thing possesses significant importance in anything, like Hajj in Islam, then its non-fulfilment can cause tragic misfortune for that person.

When Hajj Becomes Obligatory On A Person?

Hajj is a divine act of Islam and is not obligatory for every Muslim. If a Muslim fulfils all these conditions then Hajj becomes mandatory for them:

  1. The Muslim has to be of sound mind, i.e. the person shalln’t be demented.
  2. A Muslim shall be an adult according to Islamic rule. As per Islamic rules, a male becomes an adult between 12 to 15 years, and a female becomes an adult between 9 to 15 years.
  3. He/She shall be healthy to complete Hajj and shalln’t be blind.
  4. The person performing Hajj has to be free and not a slave to any other person.
  5. For a man: he should have enough money to perform Hajj. When it comes to enough money, it includes travelling, staying, food, and all other expenses required to perform a Hajj in the right manner. If a person is married or his parents are dependent on him, or both, then he should also have money to support his family/dependents to fulfil all their necessities as they were doing earlier, in his presence. In addition, if he is a businessman or a professional, then the money shall be sufficient for him to keep doing business/profession to earn livelihood conveniently after coming back from Hajj.
  6. For a female: she should have enough money for her and her Mehram to perform Hajj. When it comes to enough money for females, it includes travelling, staying, food, and all other expenses required to perform a Hajj in the right manner. Females living under 78 km from Makkah, then she can perform Hajj without Mahram, in that case, the condition will meet even if she has money only for her travelling, food, staying, and other necessities required to perform Hajj in the right manner.

If any Muslim fulfils all these conditions in the months of Hajj, then doing Hajj becomes obligatory for them.

Obligation and Fulfilment of Hajj are two different things. To be precise, if Hajj becomes obligatory on you and you are meeting any of the below-mentioned conditions, then its fulfilment is not mandatory for you:

  1. The way to Makkah from your country/place needs to be peaceful and non-harmful for you.
  2. Females living more than 78 km away from Makkah need a Mahram with them to perform Hajj. In the absence of a Mehram, they can’t perform Hajj.
  3. If a woman is in iddah (period of waiting) during Hajj days then she has to wait until the period is over.

If Hajj is obligatory on you and you are free from above mentioned three conditions in the months of Hajj, then its fulfilment is mandatory for you.

What Is The Difference Between Hajj And Umrah?

Hajj is a significant part of Islam and the fifth pillar of Islam. Umrah is understood as a mini pilgrimage but Hajj has more benefits and plays a more significant role in Islam. However, it doesn’t mean that Umrah is worth doing, it gives performers many good deeds and becomes the reason for forgiveness.

Hajj is done only in a specified period while Umrah can be done an entire year. Also, the processes of doing Hajj and Umrah are significantly different and you can understand them by reading the above paragraphs.

Hajj And Umrah Packing Guide 2024 For Men And Women

Quran

When you start your Hajj and Umrah 2024 packing, make sure to take the Quran with you. Reading the Quran during Hajj time and in Makkah is significantly more beneficial than reciting on normal days.

Dua Book

We have to recite many duas (supplications) in different places and times like seeing the Kaaba for the first time, during Tawaf, Talbiyah, and more. Many times we struggle to recall or feel confused about supplications, so it is important to take Dua’s book to remember them conveniently.

Keep A list Of People Who Make A Request For Dua

During Hajj and Umrah, there is a high chance that our supplications are approved by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala. Many authentic Hadiths prove the benefit of making Dua when we see the Kaaba first and when Haji spends their night in Muzdalifah and more instances are like that. Our relatives and friends often make requests for Dua, so it is advisable to make a list of those Duas and make them in Hajj/Umrah.

To avoid any hassle, keep all Hajj/Umrah documents together and handy. You should put all documents in a small pouch to keep them accessible. Make sure you have all these documents readily available:

Also, one should take a minimum of 2-3 flip-flops in case you lost or broke them. While selecting flip-flops, check whether they are easily washable or not, and choose the product made of light and comfortable material.

Medication

If you are on medication then take your specific medicines with you., if not, then take basic medicines like painkillers, balm, Electral powder, antibiotics, and more. However, you can also purchase them in Saudi Arabia but it is preferred to take them with you.
